How to Get an AD Code for Export and Import Shipments

To obtain an AD Code (Authorized Dealer Code), your business must first have a valid Importer Exporter Code (IEC) issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The AD Code is issued by the bank where your company's current account is maintained and is required for customs clearance and export documentation.

Step 1: Obtain an IEC

Before applying for an AD Code, ensure that your company has a valid IEC issued by DGFT. The IEC serves as the primary identification number for import and export activities in India.

Step 2: Visit Your Bank

Visit the branch where your business current account is held. Submit a written request to the bank for the issuance of an AD Code Letter.

Step 3: Submit Required Documents

Provide the following documents to the bank:

Importer Exporter Code (IEC)
Company PAN Card
Written request for AD Code issuance
Any additional documents requested by the bank

After verification, the bank will issue an AD Code Letter on its official letterhead.

Step 4: Register the AD Code with Customs

Once you receive the AD Code Letter, register the AD Code through the ICEGATE portal. This registration links your bank account with Customs systems, allowing electronic filing of shipping bills and export-related documents.

Important Note

If your company exports goods through multiple ports, airports, or Inland Container Depots (ICDs), you may be required to register your AD Code separately for each port of export. Proper registration ensures smooth customs processing and avoids delays in shipment clearance.

Having a valid AD Code registration is essential for exporters to receive export incentives, process shipping bills, and conduct international trade transactions efficiently.
